True Crime podcast “True Consequences” features Silver City missing person David Ortiz Jr.

True crime podcast True Consequences is featuring the case of 18-year-old David Ortiz Jr. from Silver City, New Mexico, who went missing on Halloween night, Oct. 31, 2010, three days after going to court and being awarded visitation with his almost one-year-old son.

His body has never been found and no one has ever been charged in his disappearance.

Podcast founder Eric Carter-Landin came to Silver City and interviewed David Jr.’s parents, David Sr. and Elizabeth, at the cemetery where they have an empty grave waiting to lay their son to rest, right next to his sister, Nichole Leon Ortiz, who was murdered Sept. 29, 2012, nearly two years after her brother went missing.

Southern New Mexico Unsolved Murders nonprofit is trying to do more to highlight unsolved murders and missing person cases in Southern New Mexico. We are raising money for the following:

  • An anonymous tip line through We Tip, a company that works with law enforcement, municipalities and school districts throughout the West to relay anonymous tips received via phone call, text, or internet form on unsolved crimes to law enforcement.

  • Full-page ads in the local newspaper, the Silver City Daily Press, on each anniversary of an unsolved murder or missing person.

  • Rewards of $5,000 for tips that lead to an arrest and/or the location of the remains of David Ortiz Jr. and Toni Padilla, who went missing from Silver City, New Mexico on July 3, 2020.

  • A billboard on Highway 180 outside of Silver City, New Mexico, publicizing the unsolved murders and missing person cases in Silver City, New Mexico.
